nytheater now is changing!

July 12, 2014

If you've been to nytheater now before, you no doubt notice that things looks different! (If you haven't, welcome--and I hope you enjoy your first visit.)

So, yes, we're redecorating nytheater now. The look matches that of its sister site, Indie Theater Now, with a unique color scheme. Why are we making these changes? Two really important reasons!

  1. This new design is intended to look great on any screen, on any device. The tech-y term is "mobile-first responsive design," which simply means that the content on nytheater now--like that of Indie Theater Now--will dynamically size and re-arrange itself in an optimal fashion whether you're looking at it on a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop PC.
  2. Navigation is, we think, much more intuitive and clear than it used to be. Our objective is to make it really easy for folks to find what they're looking for here, and to be able to quickly view lists of relevant articles by clicking on menu items and buttons throughout the site.

And what will you find here? Lively commentary and discussion about plays both contemporary and new, along with previews of upcoming plays, and other topical articles illuminating the NYC theater scene. All of it is written by yours truly (Martin Denton, site editor and founder), many of Indie Theater Now's playwrights, and our cadre of indie theater artists--many of whom have been helping us bring this kind of commentary to audiences for more than a decade.

The format is less blog-gy than before. But you can still always get your feedback to us. Send any thoughts, ideas, questions, etc. to me at editor@indietheaternow.com.

Loco7's "Undefined Fraction" at La MaMa
I got to pay a visit to one of my all-time favorite indie theaters, La MaMa E.T.C., for a performance of Undefined Fraction, which is part of the company's 2015 Puppet Series. This blend of edgy puppetry, physical theater, and dance is an exemplar of the kind of meditative hybrid installation/happening/drama that has been a mainstay of this East Village institution for decades.
