Thornton Wilder's Dolly Levi said: "Money--pardon my expression--is like manure; it's not worth a thing unless it's spread about encouraging young things to grow."
I've always agreed with that sentiment. And while I would NEVER agree that the play anthologies we've published over the past ten years bear any resemblance to manure, I am strongly of the opinion that they are of very little value sitting in their cartons in the NYTE office, but can and will be of enormous service if they are spread about the indie theater community, helping indie theater companies to flourish and really realizing their mission to help the dozens of indie playwrights we've published to grow their careers.
That's why over the next few weeks we're doing the NYTE SMALL PRESS BOOK DONATION EVENT.
We are going to donate closed cartons of our back-list play anthologies -- Playing with Canons, Plays and Playwrights 2006, Plays and Playwrights 2008, and Plays and Playwrights 2009 to indie theater companies. You can use the books to raise money for your company by selling them or giving them away as premiums to major funders/stakeholders; or give them to theater artists and students in your community. We want the books to have a good home--we want them to benefit our constituents and we want folks to read the plays we've published.
Your carton of books is free! But you must arrange to pick it up at our home/office, which is in midtown New York City. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and we can make specific arrangements. Cartons needs to be picked up by Sunday, October 5th.
Looking forward to hearing from many of you! First come, first served.
