Chemistry and Warm Enough for Swimming are having Encores!

September 12, 2014

Two plays in the2014 FringeNYC Collection on Indie Theater Now extend their runs in September. Here are some of our top picks from this year's FringeNYC Encore Series:

  • CHEMISTRY by Jacob Marx Rice: Steph is a recovering depressive. Jamie overachieved himself off the deep end. When they meet in their psychiatrist's office, they can't deny their chemistry, but can they survive it? A pitch black and piercingly insightful comedy about being crazy in love. Read the nytheater now review!
  • WARM ENOUGH FOR SWIMMING by Maggie Cino: Mom drowned years ago. Grandma died yesterday. Eddie fled his wedding. And Bridget can't make coffee. Can estranged siblings clean the living room when the bride arrives with a post-recession pyramid scheme and a Russian Mafioso stalks their childhood home? Read Martin Denton's commentary on this show.

Schedule and ticket information for these and other FringeNYC Encore shows are available here.

Loco7's "Undefined Fraction" at La MaMa
I got to pay a visit to one of my all-time favorite indie theaters, La MaMa E.T.C., for a performance of Undefined Fraction, which is part of the company's 2015 Puppet Series. This blend of edgy puppetry, physical theater, and dance is an exemplar of the kind of meditative hybrid installation/happening/drama that has been a mainstay of this East Village institution for decades.

A look back at Trav S.D.'s book on vaudeville, published 10 years ago this month.
United Solo 2014: Done; United Solo 2015: Starting Now!
ITN's United Solo 2014 play collection is now complete; and our first 2015 play--LOUISE IN CHARLESTOWN by Penny Jackson--is available as well.
