People of the Year - 2014

December 5, 2014

This month we launched the new Indie Theater Now Hall of Fame. Today I'm excited to announce the names of 15 artists and companies who have made significant contributions to NYC's indie theater landscape and exhibited consistent excellence in their work. These 15 "People of the Year" will now enter the Indie Theater Hall of Fame, where you'll be able to learn about who they are and what they've done, and--more importantly--keep in touch with what they're doing.

This year's roster includes playwrights, actors, directors, and producers, along with one unique service organization. All have made their mark on our community. They've been nominated by NYTE's contributors and last year's People of the Year for their versatility, the depth and range of their art, and their commitment to excellence. From more than 30 nominees, the NYTE Board selected 15 honorees.

See all 15 of our 2014 People of the Year here.

And be sure to check out the Hall of Fame news page, with current NYC productions and other announcements relating to all 162 members of the Indie Theater Hall of Fame. (Bookmark this page: it's updated every day!)

Loco7's "Undefined Fraction" at La MaMa
I got to pay a visit to one of my all-time favorite indie theaters, La MaMa E.T.C., for a performance of Undefined Fraction, which is part of the company's 2015 Puppet Series. This blend of edgy puppetry, physical theater, and dance is an exemplar of the kind of meditative hybrid installation/happening/drama that has been a mainstay of this East Village institution for decades.

A look back at Trav S.D.'s book on vaudeville, published 10 years ago this month.
United Solo 2014: Done; United Solo 2015: Starting Now!
ITN's United Solo 2014 play collection is now complete; and our first 2015 play--LOUISE IN CHARLESTOWN by Penny Jackson--is available as well.
