First Announcement of Plays and Playwrights 2015

November 28, 2014

Today I am happy to announce the contents of Indie Theater Now's upcoming online anthology, "Plays and Playwrights 2015." In the tradition of our long-running print series, we showcase each year on ITN excellent new plays by playwrights whose work has not previously been featured in one of our anthologies that:

  • expand, enlarge, and enhance the way audiences experience theater
  • provide deep and resonant insight about the way we live now
  • offer rich opportunities for production and performance by actors, directors, designers, and producers

Together with our 2014 FringeNYC Collection and our 2014 NYIT Awards Collection, this anthology represents the finest new indie theater scripts on NYC stages this year.

Here are the playwrights and plays who are part of Plays and Playwrights 2015:

Blake Walton (The Better Man), John Patrick Bray (Donkey), Cecilia Copeland (Light of Night)

Derek Ahonen (The Qualification of Douglas Evans), Elise Forier Edie (The Pink Unicorn), Sara Farrington (Near Vicksburg)

Erin Mallon (Branched), Jonathan Goldberg (Real Dead Ghosts), Blake Bishton (Unequilibrium)

Ed Malin (Oscar Tango Bravo), Monica Bauer (Chosen Child)

Plays and Playwrights 2015 will be available on Indie Theater Now soon!

Loco7's "Undefined Fraction" at La MaMa
I got to pay a visit to one of my all-time favorite indie theaters, La MaMa E.T.C., for a performance of Undefined Fraction, which is part of the company's 2015 Puppet Series. This blend of edgy puppetry, physical theater, and dance is an exemplar of the kind of meditative hybrid installation/happening/drama that has been a mainstay of this East Village institution for decades.

United Solo 2014: Done; United Solo 2015: Starting Now!
ITN's United Solo 2014 play collection is now complete; and our first 2015 play--LOUISE IN CHARLESTOWN by Penny Jackson--is available as well.
