Martin's 2014 Resolutions: Update for June

June 6, 2014

So here I am back again for the fifth time this year with an update on how we're doing here at ITN keeping our 2014 New Year's Resolutions. As you may recall, here's what I said at the start of January: every month in 2014, we’ll introduce at least one idea on Indie Theater Now or nytheater now to grow our sector and its constituents.

So this past month has been a very busy one for us!

First: we had the actual launch of Indie Theater Now @ Stage Left, which was a big success. This is going to be a regularly scheduled monthly event; I recently announced what's coming up in June, July, and August.

Second: we introduced a new area on Indie Theater devoted to plays specifically intended to be seen and/or performed by kids. You can see that here.

And third--and most importantly: we have just rolled out a brand-new version of Indie Theater Now, rebuilding it from top to bottom, to make it more accessible to users of all kinds--regardless of their physical abilities, and regardless of the device and browser they use. I wrote about this on the blog yesterday.

Development of ITN 4.0 was a project spanning many months. I am so glad it's complete--mainly because that means we can focus on still more improvements and enhancements that will continue to grow our service and its mission. So please let me know your thoughts on how we're doing, and check back next month for another update!

Loco7's "Undefined Fraction" at La MaMa
I got to pay a visit to one of my all-time favorite indie theaters, La MaMa E.T.C., for a performance of Undefined Fraction, which is part of the company's 2015 Puppet Series. This blend of edgy puppetry, physical theater, and dance is an exemplar of the kind of meditative hybrid installation/happening/drama that has been a mainstay of this East Village institution for decades.
Trav S.D.'s Great Vaudeville History
A look back at Trav S.D.'s book on vaudeville, published 10 years ago this month.
United Solo 2014: Done; United Solo 2015: Starting Now!
ITN's United Solo 2014 play collection is now complete; and our first 2015 play--LOUISE IN CHARLESTOWN by Penny Jackson--is available as well.
