Announcing Indie Theater Now 4.0!

June 5, 2014

I am very excited to let you know that last night we rolled out a brand new version of Indie Theater Now!

Maybe you've already noticed. If not, I hope you'll check it out soon.

The site now sports a new look and feel that is (we hope) cleaner, more consistent, and more intuitive. For the technically inclined--we've implemented a responsive layout, using both the jQuery and Bootstrap frameworks. What that means is that the site has been created to look good on any type of device and any size screen using any browser. We built it "mobile-first," which means it's been optimized for modern smartphones and tablets--which is where more and more of our audience is viewing our content these days.

In addition to the new overall look, there are many new features:

  1. The proprietary play reader has been redesigned.
  2. The home page is leaner and provides--we hope--a clearer experience for new users who want to know just exactly what ITN is all about.
  3. Navigation has been overhauled--the top menu is more clearly indicative of the site's organization... and we've added "breadcrumb"-style links atop many pages to help you maneuver around the site and know where you are within the hierarchy at any given time.
  4. We've added links to current NYC productions on our playwright pages.
  5. We've moved the searchable keywords that enable you to find what play(s) you're looking for front and center on our Browse Plays page.
And you'll probably come across other little goodies as you browse, which I hope you will do!

Please tell us what you think. Comment on this post, or on Facebook, or send us an email.

And hey, this is just the beginning. Much more new ITN goodness is coming this summer, so stay tuned.

Loco7's "Undefined Fraction" at La MaMa
I got to pay a visit to one of my all-time favorite indie theaters, La MaMa E.T.C., for a performance of Undefined Fraction, which is part of the company's 2015 Puppet Series. This blend of edgy puppetry, physical theater, and dance is an exemplar of the kind of meditative hybrid installation/happening/drama that has been a mainstay of this East Village institution for decades.

United Solo 2014: Done; United Solo 2015: Starting Now!
ITN's United Solo 2014 play collection is now complete; and our first 2015 play--LOUISE IN CHARLESTOWN by Penny Jackson--is available as well.
