Martin's Resolutions for 2014: Update for May

May 2, 2014

So it's time once again for me to check in with everyone on the status of my 2014 New Year's Resolutions. You may recall that on January 1, I resolved the following: every month in 2014, we’ll introduce at least one idea on Indie Theater Now or nytheater now to grow our sector and its constituents.

We did two things during the past month that are helping ITN and the indie theater scene to grow.

First, we updated the entire website to ensure that it's compliant with federal and state regulations/recommendations desgned to ensure accessibility to people of all types of abilities. You can read about this effort, of which I am very proud, here.

And second, we developed, with Cheryl King of Stage Left Studio, an initiative to bring new works by Indie Theater Now playwrights onto the stage of her theater for a two-week, two-performance development experience. We launch officially next Tuesday, May 6th. I look forward to feedback from folks about how this seems to be working!

I should have some more news for you soon about what's next for us at ITN. Stay tuned!

Loco7's "Undefined Fraction" at La MaMa
I got to pay a visit to one of my all-time favorite indie theaters, La MaMa E.T.C., for a performance of Undefined Fraction, which is part of the company's 2015 Puppet Series. This blend of edgy puppetry, physical theater, and dance is an exemplar of the kind of meditative hybrid installation/happening/drama that has been a mainstay of this East Village institution for decades.

A look back at Trav S.D.'s book on vaudeville, published 10 years ago this month.
United Solo 2014: Done; United Solo 2015: Starting Now!
ITN's United Solo 2014 play collection is now complete; and our first 2015 play--LOUISE IN CHARLESTOWN by Penny Jackson--is available as well.
